Norton, MA --- Senior Brendan Nemes (Kingston, MA) scored a pair of goals in a 4-0 NEWMAC Men's Soccer triumph over host Wheaton Saturday afternoon at Keefe Field.

The win keeps the Engineers (8-4) perfect in conference play (4-0) while the Lyons drop to 4-6-2 and 0-3-1.

WPI, who netted three of its four goals in the first-half, got the scoring started in the 10th minute with an unassisted goal by sophomore Paul Beatty (Halifax, MA) as he found his way through the Wheaton defense and fired a shot back across the frame and into the far post. Nemes netted the final two goals of the half, with a converted penalty kick in the 19th minute, which was followed by a free-kick header in 28th minute with help from Beatty. Sophomore Luke Reiniger (Rowley, MA) ended the scoring for the Engineers in the 67th minute with an assist from classmate Mark Calnan (Winchester, MA).

Senior Connor Hoeckele (Granby, CT) stopped four shots in the victory while Wheaton senior Erik Wisniewski (Salisbury, MA) came up with three saves. Sophomore Neil Fitzgerald (Wakefield, MA) and senior Louis Chavez (Porterville, CA) led Wheaton with two shots each.

The Crimson and Gray outshot the Lyons 16-9 while both teams were awarded six corner kicks.

WPI is idle until Saturday when it begins a five-game homestand with Coast Guard at noon. Wheaton returns to Keefe Field tomorrow for a 2pm contest against Bridgewater State.
