Men’s Soccer Blanked by Clark; Claims Share of NEWMAC Regular Season Title

Luke Reiniger

WORCESTER -- Clark sophomore Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, MD) scored a goal early in each half to guide the Cougars past visiting WPI, 2-0, Saturday to close out the NEWMAC Men's Soccer regular season.

WPI (12-5-1, 5-1-1) shares the regular season crown as it tied Springfield with 16 points; however, today's result, combined with Springfield defeating Clark on September 20, the Engineers will be the second seed and take on third-seeded Coast Guard in the other semifinal Saturday at Springfield.

Clark (9-5-3, 4-2-1) will be the fourth seed and host fifth-seeded MIT on Wednesday in the opening round of the NEWMAC Men's Soccer Championship. The winner of that game gets top-seeded Springfield on Saturday in the semifinals.

Munroe was assisted by classmates Evan Jurkowski (Ludlow, MA) and Trevor Sheridan (Massapequa Park, NY) at 3:19 and 47:19, respectively. Senior Connor Maguire (Dunstable, MA) stopped nine shots as WPI senior Connor Hoeckele (Granby, CT) halted six.

Sophomore Luke Reiniger (Rowley, MA) was the lone Engineer to register multiple shots on-goal with a pair.

Shots were even ad 12 each while Clark was awarded two of the three corner kicks.
