WORCESTER – Junior Jackson Conroy (Reading, MA) scored early in the 57th minute and sophomore Rufus Adams (Duxbury, MA) tallied a pair of saves as WPI defeated Worcester State, 1-0, Friday night at Coughlin Field.
The first half featured a pair of shots on-goal by Lancer senior Bryan Brasil (Williamsburg, MA) and one by Engineer senior Spencer Ralphs (Simsbury, CT). In all, the shots were 8-4 in favor of the hosts while both teams were awarded three corner kicks.
After junior Mark Calnan (Winchester, MA) tested WSU junior goalkeeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, MA) in the 49th minute, senior Frank Ciliberto (Spencerport, NY) took a chance at 52:29 and sent the rebound off the crossbar. Just over three minutes later, the senior took a corner kick to setup Conroy's third career goal.
The Engineers enjoyed a 12-0 margin in the second half shot column and were awarded four of the six corner kicks. Calnan looked to double the score with a header at 66:27 and another shot at 67:00. Adams, meanwhile, did not have to make a second-half save en route to his first career win.
