Middletown, CT --- Junior Luke Reiniger (Rowley, MA) scored in the 32nd minute and sophomore Rufus Adams (Duxbury, MA) stopped three shots as WPI went on the road to defeat Wesleyan, 1-0, in a non-conference men's soccer match Wednesday night at Smith Field.
The Engineers improve to 3-0 on the year while it was the season opener for the Cardinals.
Wesleyan took seven of the game's eight shots and all four corner kicks prior to Reiniger's tally at 31:58. Freshman Erik Herrera (San Diego, CA) sent a cross from the left corner of the box to Reiniger for the one-timer.
In all, the Cardinals accounted for nine of 10 corners in the contest. The hosts also had a 10-4 advantage in the shot column in the first half as WPI held a 6-5 advantage in the second.
Freshman Tucker Kelsch (Arlington, VA) and classmate JJ LaCorte (Stuart, FL) each registered three shots as sophomore keeper Chris Franklin (Scarborough, ME) halted three of WPI's shots.
The Crimson and Gray host Mass. Maritime Saturday at 1pm and the Cardinals travel to Haverford (PA) for a noon matchup.
