Beverly, MA --- Luke Reiniger (Rowley, MA) knocked home a feed from Mark Calnan (Winchester, MA) in the opening 10 minutes as visiting WPI blanked Endicott 1-0 in a non-conference men's soccer contest played Tuesday evening on the North Shore.
The victory move the Engineers to 4-1-1 on the year and extended their winning streak to three matches and unbeaten string to four contests. Earlier in the day the Crimson and Gray debuted into the United Soccer Coaches New England top 10 at No. 5. The Gulls dip to 2-3 this fall.
WPI tallied the only goal just 8:36 into the match when Calnan's cross from the left side through the box was booted in by Reiniger for the senior first marker of 2019 and ninth of his career. The guests nearly added an insurance goal in the second half by Francesco Valagussa's (Arlington, MA) bid hit the crossbar.
Netminder Rufus Adams (Duxbury, MA) and the backline of Christopher Martenson (Westport, CT), Ben Rickson (West Warren, MA), Mike Biando (Atlanta, GA) and Erik Herrera (San Diego, CA) made the lead stand up. Adams recorded saves on the night while registering his third shutout of the season and ninth clean sheet of his career. Zach Regulbuto (Somers, CT) made seven stops for the hosts.
In a statistically oddity, the Engineers had a 15-9 edge in shots yet did not attempt a corner kick on the night. Endicott attempted all seven of the contest's corners.
WPI opens NEWMAC play with the fourth contest of a six-match road trip on Saturday, when it heads to Babson for a 2pm match. Endicott also opens its conference slate on Saturday venture to CCC rival Salve Regina for a 3pm kickoff.
