Conroy Scores Twice as Men's Soccer Sinks Coast Guard, Remains Unbeaten in NEWMAC

WORCESTER – Jackson Conroy (Reading, MA) scored a pair of second half goals as WPI bested visiting Coast Guard, 3-0, in a NEWMAC men's soccer match Saturday afternoon in Alumni Stadium. 

The Engineers (8-2-4, 3-0-2) remain unbeaten in conference play while the Bears slip to 7-7 and 1-4. 

Conroy struck at 53:49 and 63:39. Both were free kicks with Brandon Hima (Oakville, CT) and Luke Reiniger (Rowley, MA) assisting on the first and Francesco Valagussa (Arlington, MA) helping with the second. Later in the half, David Lapointe (Waterbury, VT) headed home a free kick taken by Mike Biando (Atlanta, GA) at 82:40. 

Daniel Taglianetti (Wallingford, CT) and Gio Ottomanelli (Melbourne, FL) each accounted for a pair of shots, including one on-net for the Bears.

Rufus Adams (Duxbury, MA) turned away four shots for WPI and Dakota Harich (New Market, MD) stopped one for Coast Guard.

The Engineers took 12 of 21 shots on the day and were awarded five of six corner kicks in the match. 

WPI travels to St. Joseph's (ME) Monday for a 6pm non-conference tilt. The Bears head to Mass Maritime on Tuesday for a 7pm non-conference match.
