Rickson, Calnan and Conroy Earn United Soccer Coaches All-New England Honors

WORCESTER --- WPI senior Ben Rickson (West Warren, MA) garnered first team All-New England accolades from the United Soccer Coaches while classmates Mark Calnan (Winchester, MA) and Jackson Conroy (Reading, MA) took home second team honors as the Engineers registered three All-New England selections for the first time under seventh-year head coach Brian Kelley

Rickson was the NEWMAC's Defensive Athlete of the year as the center back backboned a defense that leads all of NCAA Division III - 412 schools - in Goals Against Average (0.452).  The senior proved his versatility with a pair of goals against Emerson and assists versus Worcester State and Mass Maritime. 

Calnan traded his second team All-NEWMAC selection a year ago for first team honors this season.  The forward paced the team in goals with seven and tied for the NEWMAC lead with four game-winning tallies.  Calnan was also was named to the CoSIDA Men's Soccer Academic All-District I team.  

Conroy, the NEWMAC's Athlete of the Year, led the team in points with 16, following his six-goal, four-assist performance in 2019.  The midfielder was a two-time All-NEWMAC pick and was named NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week on September 16th and just last month was selected to the CoSIDA Men's Soccer Academic All-District I team. 

All three Crimson and Gray honorees were first team All-NEWMAC selections for conference Coach of the Year Brian Kelley this season as the Engineers finished with a 13-4-4 record, shared the NEWMAC regular season title and won a game in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1976.
