The WPI Softball team is hosting a homerun derby and barbeque on Saturday, June 27th to benefit breast cancer research. The event, held at the WPI Softball field, begins at 4pm, with registration taking place between 3:30pm and 4pm. The cost to enter is $10 with prizes to the winners.
Worcester, MA --- WPI softball standout Jen Richards has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America college division second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA). Richards is the first WPI women's student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors since Jessica McAlear took home second team accolades in crew in 2002.

Babson Park, MA --- The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference announced its 2009 Softball Academic All-Conference Team on Wednesday. Nicole Maglione received her third All-Academic selection, while Jen Richards and Meg Foley earned their second straight. Kelly Johnson was named to the team for the first time.
Babson Park, MA --- WPI freshman starting pitcher Allie Hardy was rewarded for her outstanding first season with the Engineers by being selected to the All-NEWMAC Softball Second Team by the conference coaches. Hardy was stellar this year, posting an 11-7 record with a sparkling 1.16 ERA overall. The freshman struck out 84 batters in 126 2/3 innings, walking only nine over that span. She was even more impressive in conference games, allowing only one earned run in 10 appearances for a 0.14 ERA.
Worcester, MA --- Kelly Johnson had two walk-off hits on the day, a two-run homer in game one and a run-scoring double in the gap in game two, leading WPI to a 8-0, 8-0 doubleheader sweep of MCLA at WPI on Monday afternoon. Senior Nicole Maglione had six hits and seven runs in her final games at WPI. The wins allow the Engineers to finish the season on a high note, ending at 16-23. MCLA falls to 10-22 on the year.
New London, CT --- Senior Jeannie Crump hit a walk off three-run homer to left centerfield in the bottom of the eighth as top-seeded Coast Guard remained alive beating sixth-seeded WPI 3-1 in Game #6 of NEWMAC Tournament. WPI, who is eliminated from tournament play, closes out the season with a doubleheader at home on Monday versus MCLA.
Wellesley, MA --- WPI Softball dropped the opening game of the NEWMAC Tournament this afternoon, a 5-3 defeat to Clark in the tournament opener at Wellesley College. The Engineers (14-22, 0-1) will now look to avoid elimination on Saturday at 12pm when they take on either Springfield, Babson or Coast Guard at Coast Guard. Clark (17-16, 1-0) will take on host Wellesley immediately following its game with WPI today.
Wellesley, MA --- WPI Softball will have to wait one more day to begin play in the 2009 NEWMAC Tournament, as today's game vs. third-seeded Clark at Wellesley has been postponed due to wet field conditions. The tournament should be able to resume on Thursday.
Worcester, MA --- WPI Softball earned a doubleheader sweep over MIT, 8-0 and 4-1, in NEWMAC softball action on Monday. The wins and subsequent coin flip allow WPI to claim the last spot in the NEWMAC Tournament. WPI improved to 14-21 and 6-10 in the conference, while MIT fell to 6-21 and 3-13 in the NEWMAC. Jen Richards homered and Nicole Maglione had four hits on senior day to lead WPI.
Babson Park, MA --- WPI freshman pitcher Allie Hardy was named the NEWMAC softball pitcher of the week for the week ending April 19. The award is Hardy's first conference honor of her career, as she turned in an outstanding week for the Engineers. The freshman was 3-0 last week with a microscopic 0.37 ERA overall and a 0.00 ERA in the two conference wins.
Babson Park, Mass. - WPI kept its hopes for a NEWMAC Tournament bid alive with a doubleheader split on Saturday at Babson. WPI started the day with a 2-1 win in game one before dropping the nightcap, 2-0. With the split, WPI is now 12-21 and 4-10 in the NEWMAC, while Babson is now 19-19 overall and 8-8 in league play. Allie Hardy went seven innings and allowing just one unearned run on three hits en route to the game one win for WPI.
Worcester, MA --- Kelly Johnson's solo homer in the first inning gave pitcher Allie Hardy all the support she would need as host WPI blanked Wheaton 1-0 in the opener of a NEWMAC softball doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The visiting Lyons took the nightcap 3-2 following a seventh-inning RBI single off the bat of Stacey Kelleher. WPI is now 11-20 on the season and 3-9 in conference play. Wheaton moves to 15-21 overall and 6-8.
Worcester, MA --- WPI senior Sara Migdal hammered a pair of home runs in an 11-1 five inning victory over Worcester State in game one and then the Lancers earned a hard-fought 3-1 triumph to split their doubleheader against the Engineers at Rockwood Park in non conference softball this evening. With the split the Lancers move to 7-14-1 overall while the Crimson and Gray walk away with a 10-19 record on the season.
Worcester, MA --- Rain forced the postponement of WPI home Baseball and Softball doubleheaders on Saturday afternoon. The NEWMAC softball twinbill versus MIT has tentatively been scheduled for noon time on Monday, April 20th (Patriot's Day). This will forced the reschedulement of non-conference make-up doubleheader with Fitchburg State. No make-up date has been announced yet for baseball's non-conference doubleheader with Framingham State.
Worcester, MA --- Meghan Lennon and Sarah Carter each threw complete game shutouts, leading host Clark to a 1-0, 5-0 doubleheader sweep of WPI in NEWMAC softball action on Friday afternoon. Lennon allowed only one hit in outdueling WPI starter Allie Hardy for the win in game one, while Carter scattered four hits and struck out seven to win game two. Clark improved to 11-16, 7-6 NEWMAC on the year, while WPI fell to 9-18, 2-8 in the conference.

Dudley, MA --- Led by a pair of home runs from senior catcher Sara Migdal, the WPI softball team claimed a doubleheader sweep of Nichols, 2-1 and 10-4. Migdal finished the day 4-for-6 at the plate with six RBI and a pair of runs scored to help the Engineers snap a five-game losing streak and improve to 9-16 on the season. Nichols dropped its fourth-straight to dip to 11-15 on the year.
New London, CT --- Freshman Hayley Feindel pitched Coast Guard to a home NEWMAC doubleheader sweep of WPI on Sunday afternoon by scores of 2-0 and 8-0. Feindel pitched 11 shutout innings over the two games for the Bears, striking out a combined 12 on the day. WPI, who has now dropped five straight, is now 7-16 on the season and 2-6 in the NEWMAC play. Coast Guard extends its school record winning streak to 17 games.

The Engineers and Blue started the first four innings of each game in a scoreless tie before a team dented the scoreboard.

Meg Foley had two RBIs in the game one win.

Fort Myers, FL --- WPI Softball closed out their 2009 spring break campaign with a pair of losses to Carroll University and Curry College on Friday morning. WPI fell 10-1 to Carroll in the early game before dropping an extra-inning 5-4 decision at the hands of Curry. The Engineers return home with a 2-8 record.

With the losses, the Engineers fall to 2-6 on the year. Rockford improved to 5-2 on the season, while New Jersey City boosted its record to 2-5.
