  • Murphy-Cook Collects 2015 NFCA Division III Golden Shoe Award
    July 22, 2015
    Louisville, KY --- WPI freshman Nina Murphy-Cook (Roseville, CA) added the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Golden Shoe award to her sizable collection of honors received following the 2015 season. She is the third selection from a New England program since the award began in 2005.
  • Murphy-Cook Tabbed ECAC DIII Softball Rookie of the Year; Biney Named to Second Team

    Danbury, CT --- WPI’s Nina Murphy-Cook (Roseville, CA) was named the ECAC Division III New England Softball Rookie of the Year and earned first team honors while teammate Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) was voted to the second team by the region’s head coaches.
  • Bumila Named CoSIDA First Team Softball Academic All-American

    Worcester, MA --- WPI softball senior Katie Bumila has been selected as a Capital One Division III Academic All-American by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Bumila was named to the first team, becoming just the 13th WPI student-athlete all-time to pick up first team accolades.
  • Softball's Nina Murphy-Cook Garners First NFCA All-America Honor in Program History

    Louisville, KY --- Freshman Nina Murphy-Cook became the first WPI softball student-athlete to garner National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America status as she was named to the Division III third team as a utility player. The 2015 selections were revealed at the NCAA Division III Softball Championship banquet Wednesday evening.

    Medford, MA --- Medford Super Regional Most Outstanding Pitcher Allyson Fournier tossed a two-hitter and struck out 12 as No. 1, and two-time defending champion, Tufts advanced to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship finals in Salem, VA with a 6-1 victory over WPI on Friday afternoon at Spicer Field.

    WORCESTER — Whitney Goldstein’s first Mother’s Day was a special one.The WPI softball coach and her players celebrated their win over Williams to capture their NCAA Division 3 Regional Sunday afternoon, then Goldstein got to hug her and her husband Matt’s adorable 5-month-old daughter, Madison, who stayed awake for all seven innings.“It was an unbelievable first Mother’s Day,” Goldstein said Wednesday.
  • Murphy-Cook Sets NEWMAC Single-Season Steals Record in Softball Super Regional Opener

    Medford, MA --- Michelle Cooprider batted 4-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored and Allyson Fournier allowed only three hits, struck out 11 without issuing a walk as No. 1 Tufts defeated WPI 8-0 in five innings to open the NCAA Division III Softball Super Regional on Thursday at Spicer Field.
  • Biney, Murphy-Cook and Bumila Honored by Softball Coaches Association

    Louisville, KY --- Ama Biney and Nina Murphy-Cook were named to the 2015 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-New England first team while Katie Bumila was selected to the second team. All three were previously named NEWMAC All-Conference for their efforts during the regular season.
  • Bumila Repeat Selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I Softball Team

    Worcester, MA --- For the second straight season WPI softball senior Katie Bumila has been tabbed Capital One Division III Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA). Bumila was honored first team in District I, which is comprised of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, and advances to the national ballot for All-America consideration.
  • Softball Headed to Tufts for NCAA Super Regional on Thursday and Friday

    Worcester, MA --- The NCAA announced the hosts for its eight NCAA Division III Super Regionals late on Sunday night. As expected, WPI will head to Medford to take on No. 1 Tufts in the best-of-three series beginning at 4pm on Thursday with games two and three, if needed, scheduled for Friday.

    Williamstown, MA --- WPI’s Nina Murphy-Cook went a perfect 3-3, scored both runs, and stole a base while starting pitcher Clare Doolin tossed a complete game shutout in leading the Engineers past the Western New England Golden Bears 2-0 in the NCAA Division III Softball regional this afternoon held on the campus of Williams College.

    Boston, MA --- WPI freshman Nina Murphy-Cook was tabbed as the NEWMAC Softball Rookie of the Year and headlined a trio of student-athletes named to all-conference teams. Classmate Ama Biney earned a spot in the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team and senior Katie Bumila concluded her career on the second team. It is the third time in four years the Engineers have boasted three selections.

    Worcester, MA --- For the first time in program history, the WPI softball team has been selected to participate in the NCAA Division III Championships. The Engineers, who finished runner-up in this past week’s NEWMAC Tournament, earned one of the coveted 18 Pool C (at-large) bids available nationwide.
  • Softball Sets WPI Single-Season Wins Record En Route to Runner Up Finish at NEWMAC Championship

    Norton, MA --- Fifth-seeded Wellesley College softball scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to rally past third-seeded WPI, 4-2, in the winner-take-all championship final of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament. The championship is the third in program history and the second consecutive for the Blue.
  • Gurska's Bat and Doolin's Arm Sends WPI Softball to the NEWMAC Championship Round

    Norton, MA --- Lindsay Gurska registered four of WPI’s 15 hits as the third-seeded Engineers knocked off top-seeded and host Wheaton 9-2 in the loser’s bracket championship game of the NEWMAC Tournament. With the victory, WPI advances to the championship round this afternoon where they must defeat fifth-seeded Wellesley twice to take home the NEWMAC title. The win improves the Crimson and Gray to 30-8, tying last’s year team and the 2009 NCAA Tournament baseball team for the most wins by a team sport in school history.
  • Softball Edged by Wellesley 5-4 in NEWMAC Tournament Winner's Bracket Final

    Norton, MA --- Fifth-seeded Wellesley struck for a trio of two-outs runs in the top of sixth inning and then held off a late WPI rally as the Blue defeated the third-seeded Engineers 5-4 in the NEWMAC Tournament’s winner’s bracket final Saturday afternoon at Wheaton’s Clark Field. WPI (29-8) stays alive in the tournament and will face the Wheaton-MIT winner on Sunday at 10am. The winner of that contest must defeat Wellesley twice to claim the crown.
  • Softball Engineers 2-0 Record on Day One of NEWMAC Championship Tournament

    Cambridge, MA --- Third-seeded WPI walked off with a win against sixth-seeded Babson, 5-4, and used a four-run fifth inning to top second-seeded MIT on the first day of the 2015 NEWMAC Softball Championship at Briggs Field. Kelsey Saucier drove in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning of game one and Katie Bumila sparked the late outburst by the Crimson and Gray in game two.

    Worcester, MA - Casey Arpin logged a win and a save while RiAnna May launched a two-run blast in game two as WPI defeated Fitchburg State 4-1 and 3-2 in a non-conference softball doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Rooftop Field.

    Northampton, MA --- The WPI softball team closed out NEWMAC play with a pair of wins over Smith Wednesday evening. The Engineers took game one by a 7-6 score before taking the rain-soaked nightcap in five innings, 19-7.
  • Softball Returns to Winning Ways With Pair of Shutouts at Babson

    Babson Park, MA --- First-year Nina Murphy-Cook had a pair of three-hit games to go along with three runs scored and four stolen bases to help visiting WPI sweep Babson in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Engineers took the opener 3-0, and then won game two 6-0.
  • MIT Takes Two from Softball in Battle of Regionally Ranked Teams

    Worcester, MA --- Ellie Fodor struck out seven and did not allow an earned run in game one and Karly McLaughlin’s home run proved to be the difference in game two as MIT took two from WPI in a NEWMAC softball doubleheader featuring a pair of regionally-ranked teams on Friday night at Rooftop Field. Cambridge’s Engineers claimed twinbill by scores of 8-1 and 2-1.
  • Softball Runs Streak to 11 Behind Bats in Game One and Doolin's Arm in Game Two

    Westfield, MA --- Clare Doolin tossed a 4-hitter for WPI in the second game of a twin bill with Westfield State as the visiting Engineers swept the doubleheader by scores of 14-4 and 1-0. WPI improves to 21-5, while Westfield State falls to 6-12.
  • Lindsay Gurska and Caroline Medino Sweep NEWMAC Softball Weekly Awards

    Boston, MA --- WPI sophomore battery mates Lindsay Gurska and Caroline Medino swept the NEWMAC softball weekly awards, as announced on Monday. Gurska was named the NEWMAC Player of the Week while Medino was tabbed the NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week. The duo had been named the WPI Women’s Student-Athletes of the Week earlier in the day.

    Worcester, MA --- Ama Biney homered, including a game-ending grand slam, to bookend WPI softball’s sweep of Wellesley in a NEWMAC softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Rooftop Field. The Engineers took game one 6-1 and game two 16-6 in a run shortened contest.
