Seven from Softball Cited for Academics by National Fastpitch Coaches Association

Louisville, KY --- Led by then-senior Ama Biney (Worcester, MA), seven members of the 2018 WPI softball team earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athlete honors for achieving a 3.5 GPA or better during the 2017-18 academic year.

Biney collected her fourth certificate as classmates Katie Chagami (Waipahu, HI) and RiAnna May (Westminster, CO) secured their third. Natalie Fabrizio (Hampstead, NH) earned accolades in back-to-back seasons while Kelsey Saucier (Worcester, MA), a 2016 honoree, returned to the scroll. Rookies Brittany Bolster (North Kingstown, RI) and Erika Wentz (Nashua, NH), meanwhile, took home their first certificate.

On the field, Softball (29-13) narrowly missed a third NCAA invite in four years after finishing second in the NEWMAC regular season for fifth-year head coach Whitney Goldstein. In non-conference action, the Engineers defeated No. 22, and regional host, TCNJ and Ohio Northern during the early portion of the season, and split with then-No. 12 Amherst in late March.
