  • Wood Continues Softball’s Google Cloud Academic All-America Streak

    WORCESTER – WPI recent graduate Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) was honored as the softball program’s latest Google Cloud Academic All-America, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It is the ninth accolade for the program, and the seventh in five years, while the second teamer is the seventh different student-athlete to be lauded.

    Louisville, KY --- Recent WPI graduate Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) has been named as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America first team honoree, as revealed this evening at the NCAA Division III Softball Championship banquet in Tyler, TX.
  • Five WPI Student-Athletes Named to NEWMAC Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams

    Westwood, MA --- Women’s Rowing senior Eva Barinelli (Tewskbury, MA), Women’s Track & Field senior Carley Dykstra (Andover, NJ), Baseball senior Doug Rives (Bethany, CT), Men’s Track & Field junior Kevin O’Driscoll (Norwell, MA) and Softball sophomore Brittany Bolster (North Kingstown, RI) were named to their respective sport’s NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship team following the spring season.
  • Softball Trio Garners Recognition by NFCA, Wood Named to All-New England First Team

    Louisville, KY --- Senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) has been named as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-New England first team selection. Sophomore Marissa Gonzales (Oakley, CA) and junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) were recognized as second and third team honorees, respectively.

  • Seniors Shine as Softball Goes 1-1 to Close Out 2019 Campaign at NCAA Medford Regional

    Medford, MA --- Senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) was 4-for-4 with a triple, a home run and three RBI while sophomore Marissa Gonzales (Oakley, CA) batted 3-for-4 with a double and a triple as WPI eliminated St. Joseph (CT), 12-3 (5 inn.), from the 2019 NCAA Division III Softball Championship in game four of the Medford Regional. The Engineers were then ousted by Tufts as junior Casey Maggiore’s (North Hampton, NH) two-out RBI double in the bottom of the sixth proved to be the difference as the Jumbos overcame a 3-0 deficit and claimed the 4-3 victory in game five Saturday at Spicer Field.
  • Wood Tabbed a Semifinalist for Division III Softball Player of Year Award

    Louisville, KY --- WPI’s Caraline Wood has been named a semifinalist for the 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III Softball Player of Year award.  The senior is just one of 25 players nationwide, and the only third baseman and representative of the New England, to make the most recent list. 
  • Eastern Connecticut Defeats WPI in NCAA Division III Softball Medford Regional Opener

    Medford, MA --- Sophomore Morgan Bolduk (Vernon, CT) batted 2-for-4, including a solo home run, to go with a pair of RBI while also striking out four in the complete-game effort as Eastern Connecticut State posted a 6-3 victory over WPI in the 2019 NCAA Division III Softball Medford Regional opener Friday at Spicer Field.
  • Wood Named Google Cloud Softball Academic All-District, as Selected by CoSIDA

    WORCESTER – WPI senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) has been selected as a Google Cloud Academic All-District honoree, as voted upon by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The infielder now moves on to the ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
  • Wood, Ambrosino & Goldstein Earn Top Billing as NEWMAC Reveals Postseason Awards

    Westwood, MA --- Caraline Wood, Lindsay Ambrosino and head softball coach Whitney Goldstein earned major awards, as voted upon by the NEWMAC head coaches following the conclusion of the regular season. Mackenzie Phillips, Marissa Gonzales (Oakley, CA) and Brittany Bolster were also recognized.
  • WPI to Face ECSU in NCAA Division III Softball Championship Medford Regional

    Indianapolis, IN --- NEWMAC Champion WPI will travel to Tufts for the regional portion of the 2019 NCAA Division III Softball Championship and will face Little East Champion Eastern Connecticut State on Friday. The NESCAC Champion, and host, Jumbos will take on GNAC Champion Saint Joseph (CT). Game times are yet to be announced.
  • Martin Masterful as Softball Claims Second NEWMAC Championship in Four Years

    WORCESTER – Named Most Outstanding Player, sophomore Katie Martin (Bedford, NH) pitched 13 innings and collected three victories, including a shutout, as WPI claimed its second NEWMAC tournament title in four years Saturday on Rooftop Field. After the Engineers walked off with a 3-2 victory in the first game of the day versus Wellesley they shutout MIT 2-0 to force the ‘if necessary’ game where the Crimson and Gray took the 5-4 triumph. Senior Renee LeClaire (Merrimack, NH) batted 3-for-3 with a double in the middle game while senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a pair of runs scored in the finale.
  • WPI Falls to MIT in NEWMAC Softball Tournament After Late Rally by Cambridge's Engineers

    WORCESTER – What initially looked like a pitchers’ duel was interrupted in the sixth inning, as a four-run uprising by No. 2 seed MIT did in top-seeded WPI, as the Worcester Engineers fell, 5-1, in Game 8 of the NEWMAC Softball Championship on Friday night at Rooftop Field.
  • Juarez & Phillips Phenomenal as Softball Blanks Emerson in NEWMAC Tournament

    WORCESTER – Senior Kylie Juarez (Elk Grove, CA) batted 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored and junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) carried a no-hitter late into the sixth inning while top-seeded WPI defeated fifth-seeded Emerson, 8-0 (6 inn.), in Game 3 of the 2019 NEWMAC Softball Championship Wednesday on Rooftop Field.
  • Softball Holds Off MIT in Game 2 to Secure NEWMAC Regular Season Title, Top Seed

    Cambridge, MA --- Senior Renee LeClaire’s (Merrimack, NH) sacrifice fly in the fourth proved to be the offensive difference in game two as WPI and nationally-ranked MIT split a critical NEWMAC softball doubleheader Wednesday at Briggs Field. MIT halted the Boynton Hiller’s eight-game winning streak with an 8-2 victory in the opener while WPI claimed the second by a count of 2-1.
  • Phillips Strikes Out 10, LeClaire Walks Off as Softball Sets Down Wellesley

    WORCESTER – Junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) allowed only two hits to go with seven strikeouts and zero walks in game one and senior Renee LeClaire (Merrimack, NH) provided the walk-off single in game two as WPI swept Wellesley, 7-1 and 5-4, in a NEWMAC softball doubleheader Friday on Rooftop Field.
  • Juarez Walks Off, Caps Five-Run Rally as Softball Secures Sweep of Bridgewater State

    WORCESTER – Junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) struck out nine in game one and senior Kylie Juarez (Elk Grove, CA) went 4-for-4, including the game-ending single, in game two as WPI swept Bridgewater State, 6-1 and 6-5, in a pair of non-conference softball games Wednesday evening on Rooftop Field.
  • Ambrosino Earns Second NEWMAC Softball Athlete of the Week Honor

    Westwood, MA --- WPI freshman Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) has been selected as the NEWMAC Softball Co-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon. It is the second time Ambrosino has been honored by the conference this month.
  • Ambrosino, Gonzales Keep Hot-Hitting Softball Rolling with Sweep Over Smith

    WORCESTER -- A hot-hitting stretch that started in Friday’s doubleheader at Coast Guard continued into Saturday afternoon as WPI softball put up a combined 26 runs for a second straight day, sweeping Smith, 9-4 and 17-3, at Rooftop Field on Senior Day. 
  • McCasland and Wood Brilliant as Softball Takes Two From Coast Guard

    New London, CT --- Freshman Hailey McCasland (Wrentham, MA) went 3-for-3 in both games while senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) was 3-for-3 in the nighcap and totaled three home runs on the day as WPI held off Coast Guard, 15-10, in game one and ended the second game early with an 11-1 (5 inn.) triumph in a NEWMAC softball doubleheader Friday afternoon. Sophomore Katie Martin (Bedford, NH) allowed one run on six hits and zero walks while striking out four in the complete-game victory in game two.

    WORCESTER -- Senior Caraline Wood hit a walk-off single in the opening game of Saturday afternoon’s doubleheader against Babson at Rooftop Field, but the Beavers got WPI back in the second game as the Engineers suffered their first loss of the season in NEWMAC play.

    WORCESTER – Sophomore Katie Martin (Bedford, NH) struck out eight and freshman Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) connected on a three-run homer in game one while senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) and sophomore Nicole Kuberka (Los Angeles, CA) each homered in game two as the WPI softball team extended its winning streak to eight games with a 5-2 and 9-5 victory over visiting Clark Friday on Rooftop Field.

    WORCESTER – Junior Cassie Graca (Somerset, MA) batted 3-for-3 in game one and freshman Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) notched a trio of hits in game two as the WPI softball team defeated city rival Worcester State, 15-2 (5 inn.) and 8-0, Wednesday at Raymond Diamond.
  • Gonzales and Wood Help Key Pair of Wins to Keep Softball Unbeaten in NEWMAC

    Springfield, MA --- Sophomore Marissa Gonzales (Oakley, CA) went 6-for-8 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored as WPI remained unbeaten in NEWMAC softball action with 7-5 and 8-3 (6 inn.) triumphs Tuesday at Springfield. Senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) collected five RBI in the second game.
  • Phillips and Ambrosino Sweep NEWMAC Softball Weekly Awards

    Westwood, MA --- WPI junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) and freshman Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) were recognized as the NEWMAC Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. It is the second time the Engineers have swept the awards this season as the duo joins Caraline Wood and Katie Martin who were lauded on March 11.
  • Ambrosino, Phillips Send Softball to Doubleheader Victory Over Wheaton

    Norton, MA -- WPI softball maintained its unbeaten record in the NEWMAC as junior Mackenzie Phillips picked up both wins in a doubleheader sweep over Wheaton, 6-2 and 6-4, at Clark Field on Saturday afternoon.  Phillips started the opener, allowing two runs and four hits, and striking out four over six innings, and then came on to toss three scoreless innings in relief in the nightcap as the Engineers put together a four-run rally in the seventh inning.  
  • Weather Derails Softball's Doubleheader at Springfield on Friday

    WORCESTER --- Friday’s scheduled NEWMAC softball doubleheader between visiting WPI and Springfield was postponed due to rain and wet field conditions. The two teams have tentatively rescheduled the twinbill for Sunday, March 31st at 11am (weather permitting).

    Amherst, MA --- Senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) homered to give WPI the lead and classmate Renee LeClaire (Merrimack, NH) was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs in a 6-1 victory over host Amherst in game one while the Mammoths walked off with the nightcap, 3-2, as the teams split a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday.
  • Gonzales and Phillips Help Key Sweep of Emerson in Softball’s NEWMAC and Home Opener

    WORCESTER – Sophomore Marissa Gonzales (Oakley, CA) batted 4-for-5 on the day and junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) struck out five in a two-hitter as the WPI softball team swept Emerson, 7-3 and 8-0 (5 inn.), Sunday afternoon on Rooftop Field. Junior Cassie Graca (Somerset, MA) stole five bases.
