Plant City, FL --- Senior Renee LeClaire (Merrimack, NH) went 3-for-4 with one of WPI's RBI as the softball team was defeated by Randolph, 9-2, Tuesday afternoon at the Sunkissed Games. The Engineers were then upended by Penn State Behrend, 3-2, Tuesday evening.
Freshman Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) drove in the other Engineer (2-1) run versus the WildCats as the duo tripled and singled on consecutive at-bats with two outs in the bottom of the first.
Randolph (7-3) got on the board with three in the opening portion of the inning. The WildCats tacked on three more in the second, one in the third and two in the sixth.
Ambrosino also stole a base and notched a sacrifice while junior Cassie Graca (Somerset, MA) also tripled for the Crimson and Gray. Junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA), sophomore Nicole Kuberka (Los Angeles, CA) and freshman Jess Evans (Grafton, MA) all saw time in the circle.
Graca (stolen base) and senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) each recorded an RBI as Graca, freshman Stephanie Bishop (Milford, NH) and senior Kylie Juarez (Elk Grove, CA) delivered one hit apiece in the nightcap. Wood lifted a sacrifice fly and sophomore Kaitlyn Hess (Milford, NH) reached base with a misplayed sacrifice bunt. Freshman Abigail O'Connor (Belle Mead, NJ) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks and struck out two in the complete-game for WPI.
Penn State Beherend dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the second and again in the fourth. The Engineers leveled the game in the top of the fifth; however, the Lions went ahead for the final time in the home half with an RBI single to right. Bishop then reached on a one-out infield single but a double play ended the threat.
The Boynton Hillers are slated to be back in action Wednesday to make up for Monday with games versus Illinois College at 11am and nationally-ranked Saint Benedict (MN) at 1:15pm.
