Hangin' with the Herd - Softball's Caraline Wood

Caraline Wood

As part of D3Week, WPI is proud to unveil our newest feature "Hangin' with the Herd".  Check in each day this week as we profile a different WPI student-athlete and learn more about why they chose WPI, they favorite memories of their team and time on Boynton Hill and some fun insight about them away from their sport.

Today we feature Caraline Wood from Softball.  Caraline is a graduate student infielder from Averill Park, NY.  She is majoring in mechanical engineering.

Why did you choose WPI: I chose WPI mostly for the welcoming/inviting campus atmosphere, vast educational opportunities and of course the WPI softball family.

Favorite Athletics moment at WPI: Playing and winning three consecutive games in the final day of the NEWMAC Tournament last year to become 2019 NEWMAC Champs!

Favorite Class at WPI: My favorite class at WPI is a Biomedical Masters class that I am in right now called Biomaterials in the Design of Medical Devices. Medical devices are what made me want to become an Engineer and this class has helped me better understand the considerations that need to be made when designing an implantable medical device.

Favorite (non-athletics facility) spot at WPI: Higgins House! It is one of the most beautiful spots on our campus and shout out to The University Advancement Division (Mary and Gina) for giving me one of the best campus work experiences I could have had.

I wish I knew this on my first day at WPI: I wish I knew that going to WPI would be the best 5 years of my life and to stop worrying about the small things.

Favorite emoji:

Guilty Pleasure (TV/Movie): My guilty pleasure movie would have to be Pete's Dragon (the 1977 version). I grew up watching this musical movie with my family and it just makes me so happy every time I watch it.

Favorite sports team growing up: Boston Red Sox, which is tough being from NY!

My coach is awesome because: She works so hard to make her players better people on and off the field. She is a huge reason I chose to come to WPI and I could never thank her enough for that!

Funniest teammate: Brittany Bolster

Favorite or Least Favorite team road trip location: My favorite team road trip is always to Smith to play because we always get Hibachi for dinner after our games and it is always such a fun team adventure.

If I didn't play my current sport I would want to play: Basketball! My three little sisters play basketball and I played until college. I definitely miss it.

At our 25-year reunion, I will be: Hanging out with my teammates and classmates like nothing has changed since our college years ?
