White River Junction, VT --- WPI Men's Swimming and Diving junior Andrew Lybarger (Decatur, GA) won three solo events and helped a trio of relay teams to third place finishes Saturday as the Engineers and Keene State co-hosted the New England Invitational. Diving was held at Keene State, while the Upper Valley Aquatic Center handled the swimming events. Middlebury and Post also participated in the meet, which featured no team scoring.
Lybarger swept the 50-yard (24.21) and 100-yard butterfly (53.62), while also winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.95.
Senior Mason Ruffing (Stone Mountain, GA) swam a 56.29 for the second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 50-yard backstroke (27.12). Hitting the pads third in the 50-yard butterfly was freshman Khalil Badran (Beirut, Lebanon) who posted a time of 25.68.
Sophomore Eric Spazzarini (Enfield, CT) was third in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:34.57) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:34.97), while senior Lee Chiang (Lexington, MA) took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.49.
Spazzarini, Chiang, Lybarger and Ruffing finished third in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:47.67 and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:22.14). The 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Ben Collins (Newbury, MA), Ruffing, Lybarger and Chiang came in third (1:30.53) for the Crimson and Gray.
On the diving board, freshman Jeff Havill (Orange, MA) registered third places finishes in both the one-meter event (190.25) and three-meter event (170.34).
Next Saturday Men's Swimming and Diving hosts Babson at 1pm. Home swimming and diving events are held at Clark.
