New London, CT --- Heather Peruffo (Poughkeepsie, NY) won the 100-yard breaststroke and finished second in the 200-yard backstroke and helped the WPI 400-yard medley relay team to a second place showing as the United States Coast Guard Academy downed WPI 171-126 on Saturday. Both squads now sport a 2-2 record on the season.
In the 100-yard breaststroke Peruffo posted a winning-time of 1:03.84, as Kelin Song (Providence, RI) and Lauren Anderson (Bedford, MA) finished second and third, respectively, to help WPI take the top three spots. Peruffo took second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:19.77.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Peruffo, Amanda Blom (Wilkes-Barre, PA), Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA), and Alana Aubin (Taunton, MA) combined for a second-place showing of 4:22.16. Kent was second in the 500-yard (5:27.68), and 200-yard freestyle (2:03.77), while Blom posted a runner-up finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:46.79).
Toni LaBella (Warwick, RI) raced to a 12:17.28, second place, time in the 1000-yard freestyle. In the 100-yard freestyle and butterfly, Song and Aubin recorded second place finishes, 59.72 and 1:04.58, respectively.
Nica Sylvia (Martha's Vineyard, MA) led the divers with a win in the one-meter (204.60) and a second in the three-meter (177.07). Finishing third in the three-meter with a 173.70 was Hannah McCallum (Lafayette, CO).
The Women's Swimming and Diving team takes a week off and will return to action December 4th and 5th when they travel to the Wesleyan Invitational.
