Norton, MA --- Eric Spazzarini (Enfield, CT) and Lee Chiang (Lexington, MA) each won a pair of event as WPI lost, 137-102, in men's swimming and diving at Wheaton on Wednesday evening. With the results, the Lyons improve to 2-8, while the Engineers dip to 3-2.
Spazzarini won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:31.40 and the 200-yard IM as he touched the wall at 2:07.74. Chiang swept the 50-yard (21.81) and 100-yard (48.18) freestyle events and also helped the 200-yard freestyle relay team to a win in the final event of the evening with a 1:30.13.
Joining Chiang on the relay squad were Andrew Lybarger (Decatur, GA), Ben Collins (Newbury, MA), and Alford Green (Portmore, Jamaica).
The 100-yard butterfly was won by Lybarger in 51.70, while Nick Catano (Goffstown, NH) took the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:07.93.
Diver Casey Hayes (Arundel, ME) registered a 162.45 in the one-meter dive.
Also swimming to top finishes were the 400-yard medley relay team of Joon-Ho Lee (Hampstead, NH), Cullen O'Brien (Bar Harbor, ME), Khalil Badran (Beirut, Lebanon) and Spazzarini placed second with a 3:53.50, Collins in the 200-yard freestyle (4th, 1:54.56), Lybarger in the 100-yard backstroke (2nd, 57.27), and O'Brien in the 100-yard breaststoke (4th, 1:07.83).
Men's Swimming and Diving defends their Worcester City Championship on Friday and Saturday. The first race is scheduled for 6pm in the Hart Center on the campus of Holy Cross.
