Norton, MA --- Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) was the only WPI swimmer to win multiple events at Wheaton downed the Engineers, 142-99, in women's swimming and diving action on Wednesday night. Wheaton improves to 7-4, while the Engineers move to 3-3.
Kent took the 1000-yard freestyle with a 11:08.28 and the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.80). Alexandra Sanz-Guerrero (Ann Arbor, MI) took the 100-yard freestyle (59.33), while Sarah Dinwoodie (East Greenwich, RI) finished first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.32).
Also earning top finishes for the Engineers were Heather Peruffo (Poughkeepsie, NY), Amanda Blom (Wilkes-Barre, PA), Samantha Sargalski (Windsor, CT) and Sanz-Guerrero in the 400-yard medley relay (3rd, 4:30.33), Taylor Briseno (Mansfield, MA) in the 200-yard freestyle (4th, 2:07.69), Dinwoodie in the 50-yard freestyle (2nd, 26.36), Kelin Song (Providence, RI) in the 200-yard IM (3rd, 2:25.46), Alana Aubin (Taunton, MA) in the 100-yard butterfly (2nd, 1:03.67), Amanda Blom (Wilkes-Barre, PA) in the 100-yard breaststroke (4th, 1:17.58), and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Aubin, Kent, Dinwoodie and Song who finished second with a time of 1:48.48.
Hannah McCallum (Lafayette, CO) was the leading WPI diver in the one-meter as she recorded a third-place 181.50, while Marissa Goerke (San Diego, CA) was third in the three-meter dive with a 185.32.
The Women's Swimming and Diving team returns to the pool on Friday and Saturday as they compete in the Worcester City Championships. The meet will take place in the Hart Center at Holy Cross beginning at 6pm on Friday.
