Women’s Swimming Performs Well Versus Division II Opponents

Worcester, MA --- The WPI swimming team competed Friday against a pair of Division II programs on Friday evenings.  The Engineers took on city rival and host Assumption and Bridgeport, a squad ranked third in the latest NCAA Division II Avidasports Collegiate Swimming Rankings.  Bridgeport defeated the hosts 57-38 as the Crimson and Gray was not included in the team scoring. 

Senior Alana Aubin (Taunton, MA) and sophomore Kelin Song (Providence, RI) posted a pair of top finishes for the Engineers.  Aubin places third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.03) and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (27.22) while Song touched the wall fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (59:14) and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.15). 

Fifth place finishes were registered by Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.32) and Antonia LaBella (Warwick, RI) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.97).  A pair of swimmers clocked sixth place times. Colleen Heckley (Tyngsboro, MA) swam the 1000-yard freestyle in 12:28.22 while Jess Lopez (Palmer, MA) turned in a time of 2:29.19 in the 200-yard IM.  

The 200-yard freestyle relay was third (1:49.74), just .04 seconds out of second while the 400-yard IM relay notched a fourth place finish (4:32.37).

WPI is in action again tomorrow, heading to NEWMAC rival Coast Guard for a noon meet.
