Weston, MA --- Led by Carl Curran (Keene, NH) and Andrew Lybarger (Decatur, GA), the WPI men's swimming and diving team defeated Regis, 125-114 on Saturday afternoon. It was the first win of the season for the Engineers.
Curran had first place finishes in the 200 free (1:52.03) and 500 free (5:05.36), while swimming a leg of the winning 400 Medley Relay (3:53.71). Lybarger was part of that relay, and turned in top times in the 100 fly (53.07) and 400 IM (4:31.92).
Curran and Lybarger were joined on the winning 400 Medley team by Keith Gagnon (West Hartford, CT) and Spencer Coffin (Poughkeepsie, NY). Gagnon also came in first in the 200 Breast (2:26.66) and second in the 100 Breast (1:06.32). Coffin came in second in the 200 fly (2:15.11).
Other top times for WPI included Cullen O'Brien (Ben Harbor, ME) in the 100 Breast (1:05.61), Nick Catano (Goffstown, NH) in the 1000 free (10:45.57), Eric Spazzarini (Enfield, CT) in the 200 fly (2:07.54) and Keahi Goodale (Kailua-Kona, HI) in the 200 Back (2:10.53). O'Brien also came in second in the 100 Free (51.81).
WPI Swimming and Diving is back in action at the Worcester City Championships hosted by Holy Cross on Friday and Saturday, January 20th and 21st.
