Nine Victories Fuels Men's Swimming and Diving Win Over UMass Dartmouth

North Dartmouth, MA --- WPI defeated UMass Dartmouth 132-83 in men's swimming and diving action on Thursday night at the Tripp Center. 

Andrew Lybarger (Decatur, GA) dominated by winning the 200 IM (2:04.88) and the 100 back (55.57). Lybarger also swam the first leg of the Engineers' 400 free relay team that won with a time of 3:31.82. Joining him on that squad were Eric Spazzarini (Enfield, CT), Blake Cornachini (Branford, CT) and Joseph Weiler (Balston Lake, NY). Spazzarini was another big winner with a first place time in the 500 free (5:11.86). Weiler was second in the 1000 free (11:19.48) while Cornachi was third in the 100 breast (1:15.20).   

Ben Collins (Newbury, MA) won the 50 free with a time of 23.53 and the 100 free with a 51.23 time. Spencer Coffin (Poughkeepsie, NY) also found himself in the winner's circle with a time of 58.40 in the 100 fly, while finishing fourth in the 200 IM (2:15.02). 

WPI also won the 200 Medley Relay when the team of Joon-Ho Lee (Hampstead, NH), Rob Cakounes (Chelmsford, MA), Keith Gagnon (West Hartford, CT) and Nick Catano (Goffstown, NH) posted a time of 1:49.68. Lee also came in second in the 100 back (1:01.43). Gagnon came in second in the 500 free (5:15.18) while Cakounes was second in the 100 fly (1:00.37). Catano was third in the 200 free (1:56.98) and fourth in the 100 back (1:04.03). 

Keahi Goodale (Kailua-Kona, HI) came in first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:58.48. Cullen O'Brien (Ben Harbor, ME) was second in the 100 free (52.83). Ben List (Beford, MA) was second in the 200 free (1:53.61). Tyler Faszewski (Hooksett, NH) came in third in the 1000 free (11:37.10). Adam Trumbley (Prospect, CT) was third in the 200 IM (2:12.28) and the 100 breast (1:12.00). Duje Jelaska (Brookfield, CT) was third in the 500 free (5:30.53). Eric Schattschneider (Mount Kisco, NY) was third in the 50 free (25.84). 

WPI is back in action on Saturday when the team heads to Wheaton for a tri-meet against the host Lyons and the Jumbos of Tufts.
