Men's Swimming and Diving Drops Tight Meet to Wheaton in Double Dual

Wheaton, MA --- The WPI men's swimming and diving team competed in a tri-meet on Saturday on Saturday, facing Tufts and Wheaton. The Engineers fell short, losing 187.5-179.5 to the host Lyons and falling 200-152 against the Jumbos. 

Nick Houghton (Berkley, MA) won the 1000-yard free with a time of 10:18.24. Houghton also placed fifth in the 200-yard fly (2:09.19) and the 500-yard free (5:14.09). 

Eric Spazzarini (Enfield, CT) came in first in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:03.02. Spazzarini also placed fifth in the 200-yard back (2:10.88) and fourth in the 100-yard IM (1:00.18). 

Carl Curran (Keene, NH) was a major standout for the Crimson and Gray, winning the 500-yard free with a 5:01.55 mark, and following that up by coming in first in the 200-yard IM (2:08.38).  

Andrew Lybarger (Decatur, GA) placed first in the 50-yard free with a 22.67 time, while also winning the 100-yard IM with a 56.44 mark. 

Ben List (Beford, MA) was second in the 50-yard fly (24.88). 

Curran also teamed up with Cullen O'Brien (Ben Harbor, ME), Adam Trumbley (Prospect, CT) and Spencer Coffin (Poughkeepsie, NY) to place second in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:35.20. Coffin also placed third in the 100-yard fly (58.35), fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:14.94) and fifth in the 50-yard fly (26.01) while O'Brien was seventh in the 100-yard free (52.56). Trumbley came in seventh in the 100-yard IM (1:01.19). 

The team is back in the pool on Wednesday, February 1st when they host the Cougars of Clark.
