Worcester, MA --- Kelin Song (Providence, RI) racked up three victories for the Crimson and Gray as WPI defeated Bridgewater State 191-155 in women's swimming and diving action on Saturday on the Clark campus. WPI is now 5-5 on the season while the Bears of Bridgewater State fall to 4-11.
Song won the 200-yard backstroke (2:24.40), the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.12) and the 100-yard IM (1:06.13).
Jetta Garrity (Lynn, MA), Antonia LaBella (Warwick, RI), Alana Aubin (Taunton, MA) and Alexandra Sanz-Guerrero (Ann Arbor, MI) won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:01.45. Garrity also won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.94) and the 50-yard breaststroke (35.21). LaBella won the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.41) and was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:26.30). Aubin won the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.09). Sanz-Guerrero won the 50-yard backstroke (32.43), was second in the 50-yard butterfly (30.80) and third in the 100-yard IM (1:08.99).
Garrity, Aubin and Sanz-Guerrero also teamed with Jess Shelsky (Nashua, NH) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.51. Shelsky also placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:16.12) and 50-yard freestyle (28.11).
Nica Sylvia (Martha's Vineyard, MA) won both the 1-meter (207.50) and 3-meter diving (219.95) events. Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) won the 100-yard freestyle (58.15), placed second in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.01) and 100-yard IM (1:06.78) and was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.07). Jess Lopez (Palmer, MA) won the 50-yard freestyle (27.65), coming in second in the 50-yard backstroke (33.46) and second in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:03.61). Sam Sargalski (Windsor, CT) won the 50-yard butterfly (29.92), and took second in the 1-meter (164.70) and 3-meter diving (130.60) events. Heather Peruffo (Poughkeepsie, NY) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.76) and was second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.10).
Taylor Briseno (Mansfield, MA) was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:28.25), the 50-yard freestyle (27.72) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.33). Aimee St. Germain (Manchester, NH) was second 200-yard breaststroke (2:54.93). Kelsey Wall (Marshfield, MA) was third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:18.74).
The Engineers are off next week but they will return to action Friday, February 17th through Sunday, February 19th when they travel to the NEWMAC conference championships. Bridgewater State will participate in the NEISDA Division II/III Swimming Championships that same weekend.
