Women's Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Competition at NEWMAC Championships

Cambridge, MA --- Sarah Dinwoodie (East Greenwich, RI) turned in a sixth place showing and Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) registered a seventh place finish as WPI wrapped up competition Sunday in the NEWMAC Championships hosted by MIT.  The Engineers totaled 151 points over the three-day meet en route to an ninth place team performance. 

Dinwoodie touched the wall in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:10.32.  Earlier in the day, Kelin Song (Providence, RI) clocked a 18th place time in the event with a 2:17.13.  Kent shined in the 200-yard butterfly, notching a time of 2:15.23. Freshman Colleen Heckley (Tyngsboro, MA) also dented the scoring column by collecting a 16th place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a 19:26.64.  

WPI bounced back from a disqualification of its A relay in the morning session to see the B relay team of Alana Aubin (Taunton, MA), Dinwoodie, Song, and Kent finish 13th in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:44.63).  In the morning swims, Alexandra Sanz-Guerrero (Ann Arbor, MI) was 25th in the 100-yard freestyle (56.79) cutting nearly two seconds off her seed time while Jetta Garrity (Lynn, MA) was 31st in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:45.13) shaving nearly an eye-popping eight seconds off her seed time.
