Men's Swimming and Diving Quartet Competes at ECAC Championships

Cambridge, MA --- Four members of the WPI men's swimming and diving squad participated in the ECAC Open Championships at Harvard University this weekend, competing against athletes from many of the region's top Division I programs.

Nathan Hughes (Arlington, VA) reached the B final in the 200-yard freestyle, where he touched the wall 13th with a time of 1:42.67. In the morning heats, the freshman swam a personal best and school record time of 1:42.31, slicing over a second off his previous best. He also finished 25th in the 100-yard freestyle with another personal best time (47.14).

Sophomore Adam McNally (Leominster, MA) grabbed the 23rd spot in the 200-yard breaststroke with a school record time of 2:09.95 and finished 20th (4:14.37) in the 400-yard individual medley. Freshman Alex Powers (Glocester, RI) garnered 23rd place in the 100-yard backstroke (53.19) and 29th in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.86).

Senior Spencer Coffin (Poughkeepsie, NY) raced to a personal best 53.63 in the 100-yard butterfly, good for 44th place.  His time of 2:03.36 in the 200-yard butterfly earned him the 30th position.
