Men's Swimming and Diving Amasses Twelve Top-10 Finishes at NE Invite

Middletown, CT --- Erick Burgwardt (Mendon, NY), Andrew Bauer (Cumberland, RI), Andrew Kelleher (Poughquag, NY), Seth MacDonald (Sherrill, NY) and Adam McNally (Leominster, MA) each accounted for a pair of top-10 finishes as the WPI men's swimming and diving team racked up a dozen top-10s at the non-scoring New England Invitational on Saturday hosted by Wesleyan.

Burgwardt was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.09 and was followed by Kelleher in third (1:48.63) and MacDonald in eighth (1:50.73). Later in the meet, Burgwardt tied Eric Douglas from Tufts for fifth in the 50-yard butterfly as he turned in a 24.27.  Kelleher was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.37) while Bauer touched the wall 10th (5:12.84).

MacDonald swam to a 53.82 in the 100-yard butterfly and McNally came home sixth in the 50-yard breaststroke (29.57). Bauer (fifth, 2:04.23) joined McNally (third, 2:02.70) in the 200-yard IM.

Nathan Hughes (Arlington, VA) and Jonathan Decelle (Rumson, NJ) posted the first top-10s of the day in the 1000-yard freestyle as they finished seventh (10:38.44) and 10th (10:51.47), respectively.

WPI returns to the Sports and Recreation Center to face Babson and Brandeis on Saturday at 1pm.
