Norton, MA --- The WPI women's swimming and diving team emerged from the Wheaton Invitational on Saturday with a pair of victories registered by diver Veronica Nikolaki (Athens, Greece) in a four-team non-scoring meet along with Clark, MIT and host Wheaton at Balfour Natatorium.
The sophomore amassed 278.90 points on the 1-meter board and 249.80 in the 3-meter event. Senior Sam Sargalski (Windsor, CT) was fourth in both events for the Engineers.
Freshman Elzani van Zyl (Johannesburg, South Africa) also claimed third in the 50-yard freestyle (26.49) and sixth-place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.44).
Senior Jenny Biener (Wlimington, DE) secured a career highlight by finishing fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:21.86, seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:02.47) and tenth in the 50-yard freestyle (27.89), bettering her seed time by over two seconds. Classmate Mel Samaroo (New Paltz, NY) enjoyed success in three events, headlines by a time of 1:15.27 in the 100-yard backstroke.
The Crimson and Gray won't be back in competitive action until the four-day NEWMAC Championship meet, hosted by WPI from Thursday, Feb. 20 through Sunday, Feb. 23.
