Worcester, MA --- The WPI women's swimming and diving team kept its strong run going on Day 3 of the NEWMAC Championships, hosted at WPI, as Nysa Casha (Andover, MA) was involved in three championship finals, finishing third in the 100 fly (57.44), sixth in the 100 breast (1:07.67) and joining in on a fifth-place 200 medley relay team that also included Marissa Patterson (Hampton Falls, NH), Amanda Konieczny (West Springfield, MA) and Emily Martin (Penfield, NY).
Casha's 100 fly time met the NCAA-B cut standard and set a WPI record, while the 200 medley relay came in at 1:49.88 and also broke the former school mark.
WPI now sits in fourth place out of 10 teams with 389.5 cumulative points entering the final day of the meet on Sunday.
Freshman Eva Childers (Henniker, NH) made the championship final in the women's 200 free and came in 10th with a time of 1:56.64, but Childers set the WPI record in the 50 free with her opening lap of 27.02.
Senior captain Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) took ninth in the 400 IM (4:48.89), while Julia Bushell (Windham, NH) swam to a third place showing in the (4:48.95) and Aimee St. Germain (Manchester, NH) was the top alternate (5:15.67).
Patterson was WPI's top finisher in the 100 back, placing second in the consolation final with her time of 1:00.35 and also swam at night in the 400 IM (18th - 1:01.21). Finally, Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT) touched the wall 16th (1:10.15) in the 100 breaststroke.
The fourth and final day will see champions crowned in the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 400-yard freestyle relay and the women's 3-meter dive. Trials get underway at 10am and the finals will commence at 6pm.
