Worcester, MA --- Veronica Nikolaki (Athens Greece) swept the diving events while Emily Martin (Penfield, NY), Nysa Casha (Andover, MA), Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA), and Eva Childers (Henniker, NH) each tallied three combined wins as WPI swept Babson (181-73), Brandeis (173-78) and Smith (163-31) in a home swimming and diving meet on Sunday at the Sports & Recreation Center pool. Smith claimed victories over Babson (231-63) and Brandeis (200-93) while Brandeis topped Babson 157-102.
Nikolaki amassed a score of 286.10 on the 1-meter board and a 276.25 on the 3-meter board. Martin and Casha helped the 200-yard medley relay team strike gold in the opening event of the afternoon along with Julia Bushell (Windham, NH) and Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT) with a time of 1:55.03. Both Martin and Casha bookended the meet as part of the fastest 200-yard freestyle relay team, which included Day and Childers, that posted a 1:44.30. Martin went on to capture the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.15) and Casha touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.91).
Earlier in the session, Day won the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.12) and was quickest in the 200-yard IM (2:17.58) while Childers set the pace in the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.52). Eggleston added a win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.58) as Bushell claimed the 200-yard backstroke (2:22.19).
Tori Claverie (Derry, NH) was a double winner for the Engineers with a 25.65 in the 50-yard freestyle and a 56.55 in the 100-yard freestyle. Emily Matsco (Windham, NH), Jamie Freud (Amherst, NH) and Allysa Grant (Framingham, MA) pitched in with triumphs in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:18.04), 100-yard backstroke (1:04.34) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.29), respectively.
WPI (4-0) is back in action on Saturday hosting Coast Guard and Division I Providence at 1pm.
