Women's Swimming and Diving Posts First-Ever Victory over Roger Williams

Bristol, RI --- Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA) won three events as Emily Martin (Penfield, NY) and Veronica Nikolaki (Athens, Greece) claimed a pair of victories to key a 151-137 WPI women's swimming and diving victory at Roger Williams on Saturday. WPI, who defeated the Hawks for the first time in program history, is now 6-1 while Roger Williams moves to 2-4. 

Day delivered in the 500-yard (5:21.61) and 1,000-yard freestyle (11:08.35), as well as the 400-yard IM (4:46.54). Martin took the 100-yard (55.46) and 200-yard freestyle (2:00.29) and Nikolaki bested teammate Hayley Poskus (Middleboro, MA) in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 246.01 and 240.90. Poskus totaled 174.84 and 185.48, respectively. 

Nysa Casha (Andover, MA) notched runner up finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.32), 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.04) and 50-yard butterfly (27.76). Also earning silver on Saturday were Martin, Tori Claverie (Derry, NH), Day and Amanda Konieczny (West Springfield, MA) in the 200-yard freestyle relay, Emily Matsco (Windham, NH) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:30.50), Marissa Patterson (Hampton, NH) in the 50-yard backstroke (30.30), Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT) in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.21), Martin in the 50-yard freestyle (25.26) and Julia Bushell (Windham, NH) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.85). 

WPI hosts the three-day Gompei Invitational beginning on Friday, December 5.
