Dandrea and St. Germain Shine for Women's Swimming and Diving at Wheaton Invitational

Norton, MA --- Freshman Kaye Dandrea (Lakeville, MA) and senior Aimee St. Germain (Manchester, NH) performed well in several events to lead the WPI women's swimming and diving team at the Wheaton Invitational this weekend. 

Dandrea showed well in the annual unscored meet that serves as part of the buildup to the four-day NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships, which will take place at WPI starting on Thursday, Feb. 19 through that Sunday. 

The freshman finished fifth in the women's 400-yard individual medley (5:10.60), the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.35) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.64), beating her seeding time by several seconds in all three. 

Dandrea was also the Engineers' top finisher in the 100-yard freestyle (9th place, 0:59.63) and took sixth place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:47.80). 

St. Germain claimed third place in the 1,650-yard freestyle, finishing the meet's longest race in 19:56.23. The senior was also fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:47.56), edging Dandrea by just over two-tenths of a second. 

Rounding out her individual performance, St. Germain WPI's best time in the 500-yard freestyle (8th place, 5:46.21). 

The WPI women also finished third in the 400-yard medley relay (4:15.54), using a team of Dandrea, St. Germain, Kira Stonkevitch (Medfield, MA) and Kate Gillis (Needham, MA). 

The junior Gillis was also third-best in the 50-yard time trial (0:31.18). 

WPI will return to the pool in two weeks at the NEWMAC Championships.
