Day, Childers & Poskus Double Individual Winners in Women's Swimming and Diving Sweep

WORCESTER – Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA), Eva Childers (Henniker, NH) and Hayley Poskus (Middleboro, MA) each won a pair of individual events as WPI defeated Bridgewater State, 240-40, and Roger Williams, 159-134, at the Sports & Recreation Center Pool Saturday afternoon.

WPI improves to 7-6 while Roger Williams is now 4-3 and Bridgewater State is 3-7 on the season. The Class of 2016, the first class to compete all four years in the Sports & Recreation Center, finishes its dual meet schedule with a 21-3 ledger.

Day set the pool record with a winning 2:14.04 in the 200-yard IM and was followed by Emily Martin (Penfield, NY) who turned in a time of 2:16.04. Day also captured the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:57.98) as Emily Matsco (Windham, NH) was second (11:19.90). Matsco, Childers and Martin joined Day in setting the pool record with a win with a 1:42.04 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Childers captured the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.97) and 100-yard butterfly (1:01.17). Allie Connor (Baldwinsville, NY) was the runner up in the 100 fly with a time of 1:03.65. Poskus swept the diving events with a 185.20 in the 1-meter and 196.90 in the 3-meter. Matsco led the way in the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.31) as Childers was second (5:26.55) and Kaitlin Travers (Northampton, MA) touched the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.96).

The 200-yard medley relay team of Julia Bushell (Windham, NH), Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT), Connor and Thea Reymann (Toms River, NJ) was the runner up with a time of 1:55.12. Also earning silver were Eggleston in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.63), Jamie Freud (Amherst, NH) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.27), Stephanie Marcucci (Dingmans Ferry, PA) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.39), as well as Martin in the 50-yard freestyle (25.25) and 100-yard freestyle (55.39). Tori Claverie (Derry, NH) was third in the 100 free (58.59) as Bushell was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.38) and Eggleston earned bronze in the 200 breast (2:38.04). Bushell also finished third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:21.83).

Women's Swimming and Diving closes out its home slate next weekend with the Worcester City Championships against Clark, Division II Assumption and Division I Holy Cross.
