Wellesley, MA --- WPI senior Veronica Nikolaki (Athens, Greece) qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship with a second-place score in the 1-meter competition at the 2016 NCAA Division III Region 3 Diving Championships on Saturday afternoon at Wellesley's Chandler Pool. She will make the trip with men's swimmers junior Andrew Bauer (Cumberland, RI), freshman Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI), senior Nathan Hughes (Arlington, VA), senior Alex Powers (North Scituate, RI) and sophomore David Smallwood (Bangor, ME). This year's event is being held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina from March 16-19.
Nikolaki rebounded from a 13th-place effort on the 3-meter board yesterday to total 436.25 in the runner up finish on the 1-meter board today. It marks the third time in four years she will make an appearance at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships having earned berths in 2013 and 2014. In her first trip, Nikolaki placed 22nd in the 1-meter and 24th in the 3-meter. She followed it up with an honorable mention All-America 14th-place on the 1-meter and was 19th on the 3-meter her sophomore campaign.
