Greensboro, NC --- The WPI 800-yard freestyle set a new school record en route to All-America status on the penultimate night of the 2016 NCAA Division III Swimming and Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center Friday night.

Senior Alex Powers (North Scituate, RI), sophomore David Smallwood (Bangor, ME), senior Nathan Hughes (Arlington, VA), and junior Andrew Bauer (Cumberland, RI) collaborated to post a 6:41.24 in the final event of the day. The same quartet earned honorable mention All-America status a year ago.

Powers clocked a 51.27 in the 100-yard backstroke during the prelims.

Saturday will see Bauer swim the 100-yard freestyle and the foursome contest the 400-yard freestyle relay. It will also feature the final set of dives for senior Veronica Nikolaki (Athens, Greece).
