Troy, NY --- Juniors Jennifer Day (Chelmsford, MA) and Kristen Bender (Simi Valley, CA) each won an event as the WPI women's swimming & diving team traveled to RPI Saturday. The hosts won by a count of 188-112.
RPI improved to 2-1 while WPI, who was competing for the second time in less than 24 hours, slips to 3-2.
Day captured the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:54.05) and was the runner up in the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.98) as well as the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.49). Bender, who qualified for the diving regionals last night, took the 3-meter with a score of 268.35 and was second on the 1-meter (251.70).
Senior Emily Martin (Penfield, NY), Day, senior Tori Claverie (Derry, NH) and junior Thea Reymann (Toms River, NJ) touched the wall second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.89). Earlier in the afternoon, Martin was second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.76) while Reymann earned silver in the 100-yard freestyle (56.31) and bronze in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.84).
Reymann also anchored the third place 200-yard medley relay (1:57.01), which included senior Julia Bushell (Windham, NH), senior Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT) and freshman Sofia de Oliveira (Portland, ME). Freshman Olivia Hanson (Anchorage, AK) registered a trio of third-place times as she clocked a 1:03.49 in the 100-yard backstroke, a 2:17.01 in the 200-yard backstroke and a 4:52.48 in the 400-yard IM. Eggleston registered a third-place time of 1:11.22 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a fourth-place time in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.69). Freshman Carol Wang (Framingham, MA), meanwhile, was third in the 100-yard butterfly.
The Engineers hit the road for Southern Connecticut Friday for a 5:30pm dual.
