Women's Swimming & Diving Seniors Complete Four-Year Sweep of Coast Guard

New London, CT --- Junior Jennifer Day (Chelmsford, MA), senior Emily Martin (Penfield, NY) and junior Kristen Bender (Simi Valley, CA) all won multiple individual events as the WPI women's swimming and diving team cruised past Coast Guard, 169-110, Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the senior class completed the four-year sweep of the Bears after not claiming a victory prior to 2013-14.

Day was once again triumphant in the 500-yard (5:22.82) and 1,000-yard freestyle (10:59.51), as well as the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.25). Martin took the 50-yard (25.43) and 100-yard freestyles (55.76) and Bender once again swept the diving events with a 256.95 on the 3-meter and a 268.50. 

Senior Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT) and freshman Olivia Hanson (Anchorage, AL) also touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.71) and 200-yard IM (2:19.13), respectively. The quartet of senior Eva Childers (Henniker, NH), senior Tori Claverie (Derry, NH), Day and Martin closed out the contest with the quickest time in the 400-yard freestyle relay. 

Senior Marissa Patterson (Hampton, NH), Eggleston, Martin and junior Thea Reymann (Toms River, NJ) kicked off the day with a winning time of 1:53.52. Patterson was also second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.01) and Patterson clocked a second-place 1:03.36 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Also earning runner up finishes were junior Allysa Grant (Framingham, MA) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.59), Hanson in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.86) and freshman Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.68).

WPI hosts MIT and Bowdoin Saturday at 1pm.
