WORCESTER – The WPI women's swimming & diving team shouldered a pair of defeats with a 240-60 decision to No. 10 MIT and a 171-129 setback to Bowdoin. The visiting Engineers upended the Polar Bears 213-87.
Junior Jennifer Day (Chelmsford, MA) was the runner up in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.63), third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.60) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:19.46). She was also on the third-place 200-yard freestyle relay team which included senior Emily Martin (Penfield, NY), senior Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT) and junior Thea Reymann (Toms River, NJ). The quartet recorded a time of 1:42.85. Martin was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.33), fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.63) and sixth in the 100-yard IM (1:03.53). Eggleston added a fourth-place time of 1:10.96 in the 100-yard breaststroke and Reymann touched the wall fifth (56.02) in the 100-yard freestyle.
The 200-yard medley relay team of seniors Marissa Patterson (Hampton, NH), Eggleston, Eva Childers (Henniker, NH) and Tori Claverie (Derry, NH) were also third with a time of 1:52.11. Patterson also placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.42). Sophomore Caroline Flynn (Norwell, MA) and freshman Cailin Gonyea (Southbridge, MA) each came home fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:39.64) and 1,000-yard freestyle (11:08.96), respectively. Freshman Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA) was sixth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.16) while junior Kristen Bender (Simi Valley, CA) was sixth on the 3-meter board (219.60) and seventh on the 1-meter (215.85).
WPI hosts the three-day Gompei Invitational beginning Friday, December 2nd at 6pm.
