Tim Petri

Boston, MA --- Senior Tim Petri (Eksjö, Sweden) and both the men's and women's 400-yard relay teams drew distinction from the NEWMAC on Monday. Petri took home the Men's Swimmer of the Week award while each quartet was tabbed as their respective Relay of the Week.

Petri won three events, broke two of his own records and bettered a B cut as No. 25 WPI defeated host Wesleyan and No. 18 Tufts, and fell to No. 9 Williams this past Saturday. Petri began by cutting .26 off his 50-yard breaststroke record with a 26.07. He then led a trio of Engineers to a 1-2-3 finish and broke his own record in the 100 with a B cut time of 56.49. Petri capped it off with another B cut performance in the 200 with a 2:04.58.  The senior joins Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI) (Co- on October 30th) and Andrew Bauer (Cumberland, RI) (November 7th and 14th) as other Engineers to be selected NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week this season.

The foursome of senior Andrew Kelleher (Poughquag, NY), junior Karim Elsayed (Cairo, Egypt), junior Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI) and senior Andrew Bauer (Cumberland, RI) placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a 3:09.32. It marks the second time this winter that WPI has garnered the Men's Relay of the Week award.

On the women's side, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of junior Jennifer Day (Chelmsford, MA), junior Thea Reymann (Toms River, NJ), senior Tori Claverie (Derry, NH) and senior Emily Martin (Penfield, NY) collaborated to place fifth in a time of 3:42.49 Saturday in a highly competitive meet, boasting No. 4 Williams, Tufts and Wesleyan.  This is the second occasion that the Crimson and Gray have claimed Women's Relay of the Week accolades.  Like the men, the WPI women were also on honored November 14th.

After final exams, the holidays and the team's annual travel trip, WPI is back in the pool on Wednesday, January 18 hosting Wheaton and UMass Dartmouth beginning at 6:30pm.
