Perry, the conference co-swimmer of the week, was named the Justin Ferris (WPI) Swimmer of the Meet as the Engineers picked up their sixth-straight Worcester City Championship Saturday at Clark. Perry swept the individual butterfly events with a 23.17 in the 50 and a 53.74 in the 100. He also swam the third leg of the victorious 200-yard medley and freestyle relays.
The 200-yard medley relay which also consisted of junior Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI), sophomore Dave Chen (Niantic, CT) and graduate student Erick Burgwardt (Honeoye Falls, NY), teamed up to touch the wall in 1:36.99. Bauer claimed both backstroke titles with a 23.91 in the 50 and a 51.93 in the 100. He was also the first leg of the 400-yard medley relay along with Chen for a winning-time of 3:35.08. Chen was also the quickest in both individual breaststrokes with a 27.22 in the 50 and a 59.20 in the 100. Burgwardt chipped in with the top time in the 50-yard freestyle (21.87) and was three tenths off the time handed in by a Crusader from Division I Holy Cross with a 48.62. Burgwardt and Bauer later brought it home with a 3:16.63 as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Babson senior Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, FL) was the other co-swimmer of the week and Springfield freshman Connor Pennington (Monson, MA) was tabbed as the men's diver of the week.
WPI entertains Babson and Brandeis at 7pm Friday and is back in the Sports & Recreation Center at 1pm Saturday to face RPI.
