New London, CT --- Senior Hayley Poskus (Middleboro, MA) swept the diving events as WPI was upended by Coast Guard 162-136 Sunday morning on the federal base.
The Bears (1-3) collect their first win of the campaign while the Engineers move to 4-3.
Poskus led the way with a 212.55 on the 1-meter and a 208.12 on the 3-meter board. Senior Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA) added three more triumphs to her resume with a 2:12.46 in the 200-yard butterfly, a 5:22.89 in the 500-yard freestyle and a 10:42.72 in the 1,000. Her fly time set a new pool record.
Sophomores Emma Edwardson (Cary, NC) and Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA) each produced a win and a runner up finish in the breaststroke and backstrokes, respectively. Edwardson took the 200 breast in a time of 2:37.87 and was second with a 1:12-flat in the 100. Seo touched the wall first in the 100 back (1:03.10) and second in the 200 back (2:17.36).
Seo and Edwardson teamed with sophomore Alice Morgan (Cornwall, NY) and freshman Audrey Berner (San Jose, CA) to hand in a 1:57.13, which was good for second in the 200-yard medley relay. The 200-yard freestyle team also earned silver as Day, sophomore Sofie de Oliveira (Portland, ME), Morgan and sophomore Jillian Clemente (Killingworth, CT) posted a time of 1:43.92.
Clemente was third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.72) while sophomore Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) was third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.12). Berner also picked up valuable points with fourth-place finishes in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles in 26.09 and 56.22. Junior Kelly Martin (Penfield, NY) picked up two points with a fourth-place tiem of 2:22.91 in the 200-yard IM.
WPI heads to MIT Saturday for a double dual that includes Bowdoin beginning at 12:30. Coast Guard will go to Tufts for a 1pm start, also on Saturday.
