Middletown, CT --- Senior Allysa Grant (Framingham, MA) and freshman Audrey Berner (San Jose, CA) each collected a victory as the WPI women's swimming & diving team competed against No. 3 Williams, Tufts and host Wesleyan Saturday afternoon. The Engineers (5-7) defeated host Wesleyan (1-5) 189-120 and fell to No. 3 Williams (5-1) 229-91 and Tufts (4-1) 206-113.
Grant touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.09. The senior also took fifth in the 200 (2:31.76) and sixth in the 50 (32.10). Berner, meanwhile, claimed the 100-yard freestyle for the Engineers in a time of 53.86. Prior to that the rookie was third in the 200 (1:58.64) and fourth in the 50-yard butterfly (26.78).
Senior Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA) earned bronze in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.72) and finished sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.81). Senior Hayley Poskus (Middleboro, MA) placed fourth on both diving boards with season-bests of 218.60 on the 3-meter and 216.80 on the 1-meter.
Senior Kaitlin Travers (Northampton, MA) was sixth in the 400-yard IM (4:50.15) as was sophomore Jillian Clemente (Killingworth, CT) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.29). Clemente was also 10th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.36). Berner, sophomore Sofie de Oliveira (Portland, ME), sophomore Alice Morgan (Cornwall, NY) and Clemente teamed up to take sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) added a sixth-place 1:03.62 in the 100-yard backstroke as sophomore Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA) was 10th in the 200 (2:17.09) and 11th in the 50 (30.05).
The Engineers are off until January 17 when the teams head to Wheaton for a 6:30pm meet that includes UMass Dartmouth. Tufts is back at it a day earlier at BC as Williams is at Amherst and Wesleyan is at Hamilton on January 6.
