Berner, 400 Free Relay Win as Women’s Swimming & Diving Splits at Wheaton

Norton, MA --- Freshman Audrey Berner (San Jose, CA) won an individual event and helped the 400-yard freestyle relay team to victory as the WPI women's swimming & diving team split a double dual Wednesday night with a win over UMass Dartmouth and a setback to host Wheaton. The Engineers defeated the Corsairs 202-30 and fell to the Lyons 144-97.

Berner clocked a 25.82 to take the 50-yard freestyle. At the end of the meet she teamed with sophomore Jillian Clemente (Killingworth, CT), senior Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA) and sophomore Alice Morgan (Cornwall, NY) to take the relay in a time of 3:45.23. Berner was also the runner up in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.28). Clemente was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.69). Day finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.18) and third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:54.26).

Sophomore Emma Edwardson (Cary, NC) came home second in the 200-yard IM (2:20.02) as senior Jamie Freud (Amherst, NH) was second in the 100-yard freestyle (57.03). Sophomore Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA) was second in the 100-yard backstroke and senior Allysa Grant (Framingham, MA) earned silver in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.44). Senior Hayley Poskus (Middleboro, MA) posted second-place scores of 243.20 on the 1-meter diving board and 226.80 on the 3-meter diving board.

Seo, Grant, sophomore Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) and sophomore Sofie de Oliveira (Portland, ME) began the meet with a third-place 1:56.99 in the 200-yard medley relay.

WPI heads down Park Ave for a 6:30pm meeting at Clark next Wednesday.
