Women’s Swimming & Diving Near Flawless in Annual Dual With Clark

WORCESTER -- Senior Hayley Poskus (Middleboro, MA) swept as the WPI women's swimming & diving team had the best performance in all but two events as the Engineers defeated Clark, 124-67, Wednesday night in the Kneller Center.

Poskus opened the meet with a 218.30 to claim the 1-meter and later totaled 220.40 to take the 3-meter. The diving events were two of three on the night with only Engineers competing. Freshman Shelvey Swett (Olympia, WA) defeated her teammates with a time of 2:32.72 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The foursome of sophomore Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA), senior Allysa Grant (Framingham, MA), senior Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA) and freshman Audrey Berner (San Jose, CA) set the tone for the swimmers with a 1:55.43 in the 200-yard medley relay. Day collected a victory in the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.16) while Berner touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.91).

Sophomore Sofie de Oliveira (Portland, ME), senior Jamie Freud (Amherst, NH), Day and Freud ended the women's portion of the meet with the best time of 1:44.98 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Earlier in the night, de Oliveira was second in the 100-yard freestyle (57.94) while Freud won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:33.52).

Sophomore Jillian Clemente (Killingworth, CT) rebounded from a third-place 26.87 in the 50-yard freestyle to finish the 500-yard freestyle in just 5:33.99. The 200-yard IM saw sophomore Olivia Hanson (Anchorage, AK) touch the wall first and classmate Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) have the quickest 200-yard back time of 2:21.34.

WPI heads to Hartwick Saturday for a noon meet.
