WORCESTER – The WPI men's swimming & diving team had the best performance in each event as the Engineers topped Clark, 137-80, Wednesday night in the Kneller Center.
The dual began with the 3-meter diving event that saw senior Randy Melanson (Attleboro, MA) accumulate a winning sum of 251.30 points. He later racked up 258.70 points to complete the sweep on the 1-meter board.
Sophomore Jehu De la Rosa (The Woodlands, TX), sophomore Dave Chen (Niantic, CT), senior Karim Elsayed (Cairo, Egypt) and junior Jean Philippe Miralda (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) won the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.37) while junior Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI), Elsayed, junior Jackson Perry (Cumberland, RI) and graduate student Erick Burgwardt (Honeoye Falls, NY) had the quickest time in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.76). Individually, Chen took the 100-yard freestyle (49.84) and Miralda claimed the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.44). Bauer earned first-place points for his 2:02.92 in the 200-yard IM and later touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.40).
Senior Craig Barrett (Edinburgh, Scotland) earned gold in the 50-yard freestyle (22.23) as sophomore Michael McCarthy (Long Beach, NY) secured the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.97), and freshman Matt Shriner (Arlington, MA) clocked a winning-time of 10:12.73 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
The 200-yard backstroke saw junior Alex Gallant (Lakeville, MA) hand in the quickest time of 2:01.97 and the 200-yard breaststroke featured freshman Emmett McCann (Seattle, WA) with the fastest time of 2:15.05.
WPI heads to Hartwick Saturday for a noon meet.
