MIT won the four-day event with 1,555 points. Coast Guard was second with 1,134.5 and the Boynton Hillers tallied 983.
Bauer completed the sweep of the backstroke events with a winning, and B cut, time of 1:47.44 in Sunday's 200. Junior Alex Gallant (Lakeville, MA) was ninth (1:54.70) in the A final while sophomore Joshua Driscoll (Haverhill, MA), sophomore Jehu De la Rosa (The Woodlands, TX) was 14th and freshman Aaron McCutcheon (Smithfield, RI) was 18th. Bauer also anchored the second-place 400-yard freestyle relay that also included senior Karim Elsayed (Cairo, Egypt), graduate student Erick Burgwardt (Honeoye Falls, NY) and senior Craig Barrett (Edinburgh, Scotland). The foursome collaborated for an All-NEWMAC second team time of 3:02.71. It was also a B cut and within the time needed to earn and invite to last year's NCAA championship. Sophomore Matthew Scherrer (Wellesley, MA), sophomore Dave Chen (Niantic, CT), freshman Tim McDonald (Walpole, MA) and junior Jackson Perry (Cumberland, RI) represented the Engineers in the B final.
Freshman Matt Shriner (Arlington, MA) began the night by placing third in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a 16:17.56. Sophomore Markus Zimmermann (Sammamish) was fifth (16:21.04) while junior Roberto Esquivel (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) was 10th (17:00.93). Elsayed took third and Burgwardt, who was upgraded to the A final after the prelims, was 10th in the 100-yard freestyle. Barrett added a 13th-place finish for the Engineers.
Chen led the way in the 200-yard breaststroke with a fourth-place time of 2:04.92. Freshman Zach Denbow (Hooksett, NH) placed 10th (2:09.45) as classmate Emmett McCann (Seattle, WA), freshman Eric Scholz (Fulton, MD) and senior Trevor Gehring (Wildwood Crest, NJ) was 12th, 15th and 18th, respectively. Shriner, sophomore Michael McCarthy (Long Beach, NY) and Perry were seventh (1:55.90), ninth (1:58.32) and 10th (1:59.08) in the 200-yard butterfly. Freshman Tucker Besch (West Sand Lake, NY) won the B final (11th) and was followed by Gehring in 13th.
Diving regionals are set for March 2nd and 3rd at Middlebury. The initial NCAA Division III Championship swim selections are expected be announced on Wednesday by 5pm.
