Westwood, MA --- WPI senior Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI) was selected as the NEWMAC Men's Swimmer of the Week while he and junior Dave Chen (Niantic, CT), senior Jean Philippe Miralda (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) and graduate student Craig Barrett (Edinburgh, Scotland) were collectively honored as the NEWMAC Men's Relay of the Week.
Bauer won a pair of individual events as WPI swept Brandeis, 163-116, and Babson, 162-116, by near identical scores in the first set of dual meets of the season Friday night. In addition to clocking the fastest 100-yard backstroke in the conference so far this season (51.68), the junior posted a 22.04 in the 50-yard freestyle. He was also a member of both winning relays (200 medley, 200 free).
The 200-yard freestyle quartet closed out the sweep of Babson and Brandeis with a NEWMAC-best time of 1:26.58. The performance is also ranked second amongst conference competitors this season. Individually, Chen won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.40), Miralda was second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.15) and Barrett was the runner up in the 100-yard freestyle (48.17).
Men's Swimming & Diving hosts Coast Guard and Southern Connecticut on Saturday beginning at noon.
