Hoboken, NJ --- Junior Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA), freshman Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) and freshman Molly Sykes (Falmouth, MA) each had the fastest individual times in a pair of events while the WPI women's swimming team won all but three events in a 149.5-107.5 victory over Stevens Saturday afternoon at the DeBaun Aquatic Center Pool.
The Engineers (7-5), the ninth-ranked team in the region and receiving a vote in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) national poll, heads to Franklin & Marshall for a 1pm meet with Susquehanna on Sunday. Stevens (1-4) hosts No. 5 Johns Hopkins, No. 21 Rowan and Swarthmore for an invitational on Saturday.
After Seo, Sykes, freshman Rayna Harter (Plainfield, IL) and Pawlak struck gold in the 200-yard medley relay (1:54.51), Seo won the 50-yard (29.58) and 100-yard (1:02.46) backstrokes. Sykes delivered a win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.64) and, with the meet in hand, was the quickest in the 200-yard IM (2:15.58). Pawlak claimed the 50-yard freestyle (25.53) and 50-yard butterfly (28.02) for WPI. Harter collected the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.60.
Sophomore Molly Silsby (Augusta, ME) won the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 32.73, as did classmate Audrey Berner (San Jose, CA) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.59). Berner also took second in the 100-yard freestyle (56.66) and later teamed with junior Sofie de Oliveira (Portland, ME), junior Alice Morgan (Cornwall, NY) and Pawlak in the fastest 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.39). Junior Cailin Gonyea (Southbridge, MA) handed in second-place times of 5:31.11 and 11:06.20 in the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyles, respectively.
