Westwood, MA --- WPI senior Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI) and the 200-yard medley relay team earned NEWMAC swimming weekly awards. Bauer was named as the NEWMAC Men's Swimmer of the Week and the quartet of Bauer, junior Dave Chen (Niantic, CT), senior Jackson Perry (Cumberland, RI) and senior Jean Philippe Miralda (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) were selected as the NEWMAC Men's Relay of the Week.
Bauer, who now boasts six individual and nine relay weekly honors, won three individual events and was part of three relay victories this past weekend. He captured the 100-yard backstroke (52.33) and was on both winning relays in a dual with No. 20 Stevens. He followed up with a sweep of the 100-yard (51.39) and 200-yard (1:57.96) butterfly events and helped the 200 medley to another victory against Franklin & Marshall and Susquehanna.
The 200 medley opened Saturday's dual with a time of 1:35.28 and Sunday's double dual with a 1:34.35. The group also closed out Saturday's meet with a 1:28.07 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Individually, Chen won the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststrokes at Stevens and the 200-yard breaststroke at Franklin & Marshall while Perry took the 100-yard butterfly (52.41) in the weekend opener. Miralda earned silver in both 100-yard freestyles (48.72, 48.24), and the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.08) on Saturday.
No. 18 WPI heads to UMass Dartmouth Wednesday for a 6:30pm meet which also includes Wheaton.
