WORCESTER – Sophomore Zach Denbow (Hooksett, NH) won as an individual and as part of a relay as the WPI men's swimming & diving team bested crosstown foe Clark, 116-94, Wednesday night in the Sports & Recreation Center.
The Engineers extend their single-season program record to 13 wins and push head coach Paul Bennett past the 200 men's and women's dual meet win milestone.
After Denbow teamed with seniors Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI), Jackson Perry (Cumberland, RI) and Jean Philippe Miralda (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) to secure the 400-yard medley relay (3:35.91), the sophomore won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:01.75. Bauer took the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.00) as graduate student Craig Barrett (Edinburgh, Scotland), Bauer, Miralda and Perry ended the night with the quickest 200-yard freestyle relay.
Junior Chris Nelson (Millbury, MA) totaled 221.17 to win the 1-meter dive and was second on the 3-meter. Freshman Henry Buda (Laurel, MD) claimed the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.79) and sophomore Emmett McCann (Seattle, WA) was the fastest in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.89).
The sprint freestyles saw junior Dave Chen (Niantic, CT) win the 50 (22.25), junior Jehu De la Rosa (Mission, TX) take second in the 100 (49.90) and junior Markus Zimmermann (Sammamish, WA) place first in the 200 (1:49.07). Senior Roberto Esquivel (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) touched the wall first in the 500 (5:04.11) and freshman Archie Milligan (Middlebury, VT) earned gold in the 1,000 (10:20.73).
The Engineers conclude the dual meet portion of the schedule with a trip to Hartwick on Saturday for a 12pm start.
