Women’s Swimming & Diving Ties Program Record, Bennett Surpasses 200 Wins

WORCESTER – Sophomore Julia Noël (Beverly, MA) totaled the best scores in both diving events as the WPI swimming & diving team defeated crosstown rival Clark, 117-89, Wednesday night in the Sports & Recreation Center.

With their 10th win of the season, WPI (10-7) ties the 2015-16 team for the program record while head coach Paul Bennett surpasses 200 men's and women's dual meet victories.

Noël accumulated 209.70 points to win the 1-meter and amassed 222.60 for the top score on the 3-meter. Junior Leigh Whitehorn (Madison, NJ) also posted a score over 200 with a sum of 208.79.

The 400-yard medley relay quartet of junior Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA), freshman Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA), freshman Rayna Harter (Plainfield, IL) and sophomore Audrey Berner (San Jose, CA) opened the night with a winning time of 4:13.90. Freshman Monika Nowak (Longmeadow, MA), Pawlak, sophomore Theresa Sandbrook (Davie, FL) and Seo had the quickest 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.78.

Pawlak also won the 50-yard freesyle (25.08) while Berner touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:33.26). The 1,000-yard freestyle featured a win by sophomore Erica Houghton (Berkley, MA) with an 11:13.07 as junior Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) secured the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.07) and freshman Sarah MacDonald (Yorktown Heights, NY) claimed the 100-yard freestyle (56.94).

Freshman Molly Sykes (Falmouth, MA) triumphed in the 200-yard IM (2:16.18) as sophomores Annie Hughes (Woodbury, NJ) and Mary Rego (Amherst, NH) earned gold in the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.13) and 200-yard backstroke (2:18.05), respectively. Sophomore Shelvey Swett (Olympia, WA) was the first to the wall in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.77).

WPI closes out the dual meet portion of the schedule with a trip to Hartwick on Saturday for a 12pm meet.
