Oneonta, NY --- The WPI women's swimming & diving team's 400-yard freestyle relay comprised of sophomore Audrey Berner (San Jose, CA), freshman Kimmy Hazeltine (Stratham, NH), junior Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) and freshman Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) closed out a 167-127 triumph over host Hartwick Saturday afternoon in the Sally Griffiths Herbert '88 Aquatic Center.
With the win, the team sets the program record for single-season dual meet victories with 11. The previous best was 10 set by the 2015-16 squad.
The quartet posted a time of 3:49.01. Individually, Wang was second in the 100-yard (57.04) and 200-yard freestyles (2:04.09) while Pawlak was the runner up in the 50-yard freestyle (25.29). Pawlak also anchored the second-place 200-yard medley relay (1:56.01) that included junior Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA), freshman Molly Sykes (Falmouth, MA) and junior Jillian Clemente (Killingworth, CT).
Seo led the way in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.12) as did Sykes in the 200-yard IM (2:16.54). Clemente added a second-place 5:32.77 in the 500-yard freestyle. Junior Cailin Gonyea (Southbridge, MA) won the longer version with a 11:15.31 in the 1000-yard freestyle. The 200-yard backstroke saw senior Jenna Vandervort (Voorheesville, NY) touched the wall first in a time of 2:18.70 while freshman Rayna Harter (Plainfield, IL) claimed the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.78). Sophomore Julia Noël (Beverly, MA) and junior Alexis Mittelman (Montgomery, NY) were 1-2 in the diving events.
Sophomore Shelvey Swett (Olympia, WA) was the runner up in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.67). Junior Emma Edwardson (Cary, NC) was third in the 100-yad breaststroke (1:13.38) and Harter was third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.23).
The Engineers host the Tech Sprints on Saturday. Sessions begin at 9am and 4pm.
